What The Cross is NOT❗

 

So in Luke 9:23, Jesus said that we must pick up our cross daily. 

Here are some things the cross is not👇

1. It is not a piece of jewelry, ornament or house decoration. While these are ok to have, these items in themselves are NOT the cross❗ They have no power to do anything for us. They cannot protect us from evil spirits and they don't make us holy in God's sight.

2. It is not a prayer item. This includes the crucifix and the holding of a cross to be able to pray or cast out evil spirits. 

3. It is not the problems and troubles and burdens and sickness in your life. In fact, Jesus put an end to all this when He died on the cross. 

These wrong applications of and beliefs about the cross MUST be corrected or removed from us. We cannot remove it by ourselves, otherwise we will not meet God's standard of removal. We MUST come to Christ ❗

This year I got to be apart of a retreat with the theme, 'What is the cross?'. 

The teaching and panel discussions were very helpful and practical in teaching how to apply the true identity and meaning of the cross.

The cross that Jesus died on, what it accomplished for all the world for whom Jesus died. 

In Luke 9:23 NLT, it says👇

Then he(Jesus) said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must 

give up your own way(deny yourself), take up your cross daily, 

and follow me.

That right there, where Jesus said we have to pick up our cross daily, is why we need to correctly understand what 'the cross' is.
